Jack Johnson Sustainability Awareness

This is a great idea to educate the youth and upcoming generation about sustainability and get them excited about becoming involved active members of the community. Celebrities have the ability to draw attention to certain causes and this should be utilized to its fullest capabilities. Music is an effective, powerful way to emphasize specific issues and bring awareness that is necessary.

I definitely agree. Celebrities receive a lot of media attention, and too often this is used negatively. Unfortunately some celebrities, who are role models for younger generations promote irresponsible behavior such as alcohol, drugs, and eating disorders. However, there have been many celebrities who have utilized their power with the media to give attention to very important issues in our world today. Besides the Jack Johnson example, another great awareness project was the Live 8 Event. Live 8 was a string of concerts in which over 1,000 musicians performed, broadcasted on 182 television programs, and 2,000 radio networks. The shows planned to pressure world leaders to drop the debt of the world's poorest nations, increase and improve aid, and negotiate fair trade rules in the interest of poorer countries. The project especially focused on Africa. These types of events are amazing ways to get the attention of political leaders as well as help the everyday individual gain insight into important issues that are occurring in our world.
